Where his career stood
When this collection came out, on 4 January 2024, Ilia Topuria's record was 14-0, 6-0 in the UFC, and he was not yet a champion. He was coming off a win over Josh Emmett by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night: Emmett vs. Topuria, 194 days earlier. His next fight was UFC 298: Volkanovski vs. Topuria, against Alexander Volkanovski, 44 days later: he won by KO.
What 2023 Goodwin Champions is
Goodwin Champions is Upper Deck's multi-sport set with a classic feel: Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, tennis players, athletes and a Georgian fighter labelled MMA share one checklist. Although 2023 is in its name, it was released on 4 January 2024. It is Ilia Topuria's broadest entry at Upper Deck: 83 versions across 8 editions, with 6 signed and 2 with a relic.
- Two base cards: #73 in the base set and #124 in Splash of Color, the short subset.
- Two Platinums: P49 and SCP-89, the same chrome with the same seventeen-colour ladder, in two different subsets.
- His first autographs: A-IT and the horizontal HA-IT, signed on the card, per Upper Deck; the store page details what is hard-signed.
Hobby, retail and e-Pack
- Hobby: 18 packs of 5 cards, with two hits, 4 Splash of Color, 6 Platinum and 6 Upper Deck or Young Guns per box.
- Retail: the only home of the All-World AW-5, a retail exclusive, and of the Turquoise parallels in the blaster bonus pack, per Upper Deck.
- e-Pack: Upper Deck's digital platform, per its store: the base set opens digitally and the Splash of Color cards arrive physical. That is also where the printing plates come from and, in Metal Universe, the booklets.
The rare pieces
- Birth Year Coinage BYCR-16: a 1997 coin, his birth year, /50.
- Black Diamond Rookie Stone Relics BDRR-IT: stone from the Black Diamond brand, /99 and a Pure Black 1/1.
- Goudey 3-D Lenticular GL-IT and Splash of Color Lenticular SCL-IT: the lenticulars, in tiers.
- Eight printing plates: four for #73 and four for #124, from the e-Pack checklist.
What gets confused
- It is a 2024 product with a 2023 name: it was neither Ilia Topuria's first card nor his first year.
- P49 and SCP-89 are two cards, not one with two numbers.
- On e-Pack the base is digital: the physical pull from there is the Splash of Color #124.
How to read this page
- 42 numbered and 41 unnumbered; 2,405 confirmed sales and 58 active listings seen today.
- 13 one-of-ones here are also among the Ilia Topuria 1/1 cards.
